Know About BGRL
and Its Mission
The BGRL, located in Karad,
Maharashtra, is a premier research institution dedicated to studying
seismic activities and borehole geophysics. The Koyna region is known
for its unique intra-plate seismic activity, making it an ideal location for
deep drilling and fault zone investigations. The laboratory plays a crucial
role in understanding earthquake mechanisms by conducting in-situ
measurements of rock properties, pore-fluid pressure, hydrological parameters,
and temperature variations.
Since its inception, BGRL has
undertaken broadband seismology, magneto-telluric surveys, airborne gravity
gradiometry, and LIDAR studies to map the subsurface structure of the
seismic zone. The findings have significantly contributed to the design and
execution of deep borehole drilling projects.
