Stenographer (Higher Grade & Lower Grade) and Clerk Posts

The High Court of Judicature at Bombay has announced major recruitment drives for Stenographers (Higher Grade, Lower Grade) and Clerks at its Principal Seat in Mumbai and Benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad.

🎓 Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

           General: 21–38 years (Clerk: 18–38 years)

           SC/ST/OBC/SBC (Maharashtra): 21–43 years (Clerk: 18–43 years)

           Govt./High Court Employees: Minimum age applies, no max limit.

Educational Qualification

           Stenographer (Higher Grade):

           Degree (Law preferred) OR 5 years’ experience as Lower Grade Steno.

           English Shorthand: 100 w.p.m.

           English Typing: 40 w.p.m. (GCC/ITI/MSCE).

           Computer proficiency certificate (MSCIT/NIIT/CDAC etc.).

           Stenographer (Lower Grade):

           Degree (Law preferred) OR 3 years’ experience in Stenography.

           English Shorthand: 80 w.p.m.

           English Typing: 40 w.p.m.

           Computer proficiency certificate.

           Clerk:

           Degree (Law preferred).

           English Typing: 40 w.p.m. (GCC/ITI/MSCE).

           Computer proficiency certificate.

Other Conditions

           Must be domiciled in Maharashtra.

           Good character, no criminal cases.

           Not more than 2 living children after 28/03/2005.

           Knowledge of Marathi (read, write, speak).

           No Objection Certificate if in Govt./Court service.

📝 Selection Process

Stenographer (Higher Grade)

1.           Shorthand Test – 40 marks (Dictation 500 words, 5 min; Transcription 30 min).

           Passing: 24 marks.

2.           Typing Test – 40 marks (400 words, 10 min).

           Passing: 20 marks.

3.           Vivavoce 20 marks.

Stenographer (Lower Grade)

1.           Shorthand Test – 40 marks (Dictation 400 words, 5 min; Transcription 25 min).

           Passing: 20 marks.

2.           Typing Test – 40 marks (400 words, 10 min).

           Passing: 20 marks.

3.           Vivavoce 20 marks.

Clerk

1.           Screening Test – 90 marks (MCQs, 1 hour).

           Subjects: Marathi (10), English (20), GK (10), Intelligence (20), Arithmetic (20), Computer (10).

           Passing: 45 marks.

2.           Typing Test – 20 marks (400 words, 10 min).

           Passing: 10 marks.

3.           Vivavoce 40 marks.

📂 Documents Required (Selfattested copies + originals at verification)

           Proof of Date of Birth (SSC/School Leaving/Birth Certificate).

           Mark sheets & certificates (SSC, HSC, Graduation, Law, PG).

           Shorthand & Typing certificates.

           Computer proficiency certificate.

           Caste certificate (if applicable).

           Domicile certificate (Maharashtra).

           Character certificates (Form A, from two respectable persons).

           NOC (if Govt./Court employee).

           Employment Exchange registration (if available).

           Gazette/Marriage certificate (if name changed).

⚠️ Key Instructions

           Apply only online; no offline mode accepted.

           Upload passport photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm) & signature (3 × 2.5 cm) in JPEG, max 40 KB.

           Select only one establishment (Bombay/Nagpur/Aurangabad). No change allowed later.

           Keep Registration ID safe and print application after submission.

           Carry Admit Card + valid photo ID (Aadhaar/PAN/Voter/Driving Licence/Passport) to exam.

           Appointment subject to medical exam & police verification.

           Initial probation: 2 years.

  Final Notes

           Select List & Wait List valid for 2 years.

           Wait List operates only if selected candidates don’t join or resign.

           Services can be terminated during probation without notice.
